With a name that's also a description, Big Kiona stands alone in our lineup as the raucous, edgy cousin to its buttoned-up, traditionally-styled brethren. Three powerhouse varieties in one, throw-out-the-rulebook blend? Let’s goooooo!
Heart of the Hill Petite Sirah headlines, and for good reason: it's got intense concentration, Chuck Norris tannin structure, and inky dark, black-hole coloration. There's no way to make Red Mountain Petite Sirah into a svelte, elegant wine. Prepare to get kicked in the face.
We farm one of the only Zinfandel blocks in the AVA up at Ranch at the End of the Road, where the wines are intense and fruit-forward. The variety tends to ripen unevenly, resulting in late, high-sugar picks. In this jammy, high-alcohol guise, it's a perfect complement to Petite Sirah.
Last but not least, Petit Verdot needs no introduction as the moodiest, broodiest Bordeaux red cultivar out there. When "King Cabernet" needs more structure or more tannin, Petit Verdot is often the solution. Here it adds a savory and herbal counterpoint to the fruit-forward tendencies of Petite Sirah and Zinfandel.
